SP = Standard Play
EP = Extended Play
VP = Variable play. If it senses it is running out of time, it will slow down.

EP is usually the best.

The highest quality recording will be obtained at the setting that records for the shortest time: 2 hours of recording time (SP or "short play" mode).

My VCR's middle setting gives 4 hours of recording time (LP or "long play" mode), which may be equivalent to your EP (probably "extra play") mode.

The longest setting, 6 hours, gives the poorest quality playback. That's the VP ("very long play" mode).

SP = Standard Play about 2 hours..until tape is used up.

EP = Extended Play about 4 hours of tape.

VP = Not sure.

If you are recording music, I suggest using SP as it will record at a faster pace which is best for music..For movies I suggest EP.

different speed of recording! I usually use EP, so I can get the most shows on it...like 6 hours worth....SP...you only get 2 hour movie on it!
