Last name change to name of their work sponsor. Person says their attorney recommended it. Sounds crazy to me.

I doubt a person on a work visa can even legally change their name in the US. This sounds like a scheme to hide someone from INS.

One of the guests who stays at the hotel I work at is an International Law attorney. I say this question and I just had to ask him. He said there is no way an attorney would have recommended that.

Uh no. Only thing I have heard like that was when slaves were given the last names of their masters.
