Many of you have experienced flying, and I have, too. However, everytime that I do fly, the flight is too long, the batteries die on my DVD player, and my ears just won't pop! (Then again, the DVD player doesn't matter much, especially since I can't hear it over my nearly deaf-from-popping ears.)
What is the best way to make your ears pop, and the best way to entertain oneself while in the air?

All of the above answers can help you -but the best thing for ears in flight can be purchased in such places as Longs Drugs, Rite
Aide, Wal Greens, etc. They are called Ear Planes - a type a ear plug that really works - read the directions before you buy and see if you think they will work for you - I fly all the time and many flights are out of the country and can be as long as 22 hrs - they work for me....Good luck..:)

One of the better ways to make your ears pop might be to use a tissue and blow your nose.
I usually take a variety of reading materials when travelling a long way; not all one kind but different subjects will likely keep you busy a longer time.
If you've a companion beside you, perhaps talking with them will be enjoyable, if you both wish to talk that is.
If you bring your dvd player then bring an extra set or two of batteries but don't play it too long a time to conserve the batteries.

Read. Bring something to do that doesn't require batteries, such as working on your to-do list. That way you feel productive when the flight's over.
I fly quite a bit -- about 100,000 miles a year, and I try to bring non-fiction, so I feel like I read something worthwhile.
but your tastes may vary.
P.S. DVD players throw off more radio-frequency interference than cell phones do, because they're not as well shielded... just something to think about while the plane is landing, and it's the main reason they want ALL electronic devices (not just laptops) turned off and stowed while landing.

The best way for me to enjoy a plane ride is to just enjoy the view. Its relaxing, i take a nap or two. I try to think positive and just think about what i'm going to do when I get to my destination. Hmm..and the ear situation is kind of tough, the only way I get them to pop is by chewing gum, if i'm patient enough I just wait until i get to the destination but thats never the answer. I always manage to have gum w/ me though.

For ear popping, as you know chewing gum does not work. I just deal with it at this point, drink alot of water, as I travel alot for my work. As far as being bored, I always like to upgrade to first class. Great conversation (most of the time), always bring a great book, and your own ear pieces for the in flight movie. If you are not into books: cross word puzzles, magazines, and my personal favorite...make everyone think you are insane!!! It is alot of fun if you can keep a straight face:)

I always bring a book or two, usually mystery. They keep me occupied for several hours and you lose track of time, next thing you know, you are there! Chewing gum helps with the ear popping

To pop your ears:
I plug my nose and blow out. I think its the best way. Others include chewing gum, which helps make you swallow, and drinking something.
To entertain:
Inflight movie, read the pouch magazine, or draw or something. How long is your plane trip cause my DVD player batteries dont die on trips from SoCal to Hawaii.

it sounds weird, but i divided the total lenght of the journey into small 1-2 hours periods... then i just look foward to the first period to end, then i get happy for that, then again start my new period, and so go on...
it works for me!
and of course get drunk!

I chew gum. It helps me, but I don't know if it would help everyone.
Bring a good book along!
