Yes, it depends on where you are, if there has been a natural disaster, or an outbreak of sorts, but if you boil the water it will kill the parasites. That's why they say don't drink the water in mexico.

Yes, if their eggs are in the water, or if there is a lot of parasitic bacteria in the water, it depends where you get the water from, sink water doesnt have it, but the water down by the lake probably does

Absolutely!!! The most common parasite in America is called Giardia. You classically get this by drinking water from a stream inhabited by beavers. Many backpackers get it. It causes severe abdominal cramping and BBAADDDDD diarrhea.
Many of diarrheal illnesses you here people get from traveling to Mexico (traveler's diarrhea) is actually caused by a bacteria called E. coli.

Absolutely! There's a protozoan in the water in Mexico and some other poorer countries that causes "Montezuma's Revenge". It's like diarrhea from hell. That's why they say don't drink the water there.

Yes there are a few....but it would have to be unpasteurized spring water or creek water, not tap or bottled water

i know that in mexico you can. Never drink the water. Don't even brush your teeth with that water....TRUST ME!!
