My son has to make some kind of German snack for his history class. I'm not much of a cook, so I need something very easy that he can put together tomorrow evening.

A common snack eaten in Germany is bread and sausage. Get some bread with a little body to it -- not your plain old sliced white bread, as that's too flimsy. You could use sliced rolls; they do that, too. Find a salami-type sausage that's about as large as the bread (already sliced is ok, too) and serve that with the bread. Your son can assemble the slices with butter the night before and take them in already made. This is quite common. Some Germans prefer cheese (Gouda, Edam, etc) to sausage. Another thing the Germans eat with their bread is Nutella, that chocolate hazelnut spread. One thing that makes these snacks German is that all the 'sandwiches' are served open-faced. Hope this is helpful.
