Pay it ASAP. You'll be able to open an account someplace else. But most likely they will want you to have a balance of like $200 at all times or you'll be charged a fee or something. They will want to make sure you have money in your account to cover checks you write.

Almost all banks now, use a service that allows them to call and check these things before you can open a new account with them..
At this point, it would also be on your credit report. Wells Fargo is the worst at that.
Contact Wells Fargo, ask them your balance and see if you can get contact infor for the collection agency. You can work out a payment arrangement with them. This way the debt can be paid and fixed. Remember, all they want if their money, no matter how they get it.
You have nothing to lose.

You will not be able to open another account at Wells Fargo without bringing your account current with them. You will be able to open an account somewhere else that is non-related to Wells Fargo, be careful the collection company will fight hard to collect once you open a new account. They will trace you, that information hits all credit ratings and Wells Fargo's sharks will find you. I would find a small branch bank to open an account with or make good on the previous account. Good Luck.

You can open an account at another bank, however you should contact Wells Fargo to clear up any outstanding debts you have with them. You dont want this to effect your credit rating.

try at a smaller bank or credit union. I freaking hate banks, I currently have a $400 overdraft on my account. US Bank sucks too, just to let you know.

Pay it back and make sure they update your ChexSystems report to say that no money is owed. (Right now it probably says that your account was closed for overdrafts w/ money owed.)
If you need an account right away, try to find a bank that doesn't use ChexSystems.
