She is probably getting on up there... but ask your vet when the time comes for the next check up. You know at least she is 4yrs old. Yellow teeth, with some missing, implys at least 10 - or around... just by guessing i would say around 10 -12 yrs old.. but ask a vet to be sure... you could probably swing her by sometimes, and just ask them if the vet could give you an estimate... they probably wouldnt charge you an office visit or anything, doesnt hurt to ask though

If you just got this dog, he is 'due' for a veterinary checkup NOW....not in 6 months. That may be when his vaccines and yearly tests are due....but he may have health issues that you just inherited which need to be addressed sooner. And your veterinarian can estimate the age by looking at the teeth and the eyes. If a condition called nuclear sclerosis (a normal aging change) is present, that means he is at least 6-7 years old, for example. That can only be determined with an ophthalmoscope....something you probably don't have. ;-) Poms often develop fairly severe periodontal disease at surprisingly young ages....so you can't go by that alone.
A basic examination by a veterinarian is one of the best bargains there is, considering the amount of information obtained for the fee charged. Please consider taking advantage of it.

If your dog isn't due for the vet for six months then you should already know how old he is. Since he's already been to the vet they tell you about how old your dog is.
If your dog hasn't been to the vet and isn't going for another 6 months then you need to cancel that appointment and go to a vet much sooner.
If you got the dog from someone else they should have told you an approximate age and should have had the rabies paperwork which tells you the age of the dog.

If his teeth are still little and his canines have not yet developed he is still a puppy. Did you know that puppies loose their baby teeth?
I see in your question you got him four years ago, he could be very old.

Are his teeth white and clean? He is most likely under two years if so.Has he grown into his feet yet, if they are big and not in proportion to his body, he is less than one year. If he is getting around good, likes to exercise and doesn't have breathing problems, he is not old.
