call one of the salesman over the phone, before going in. Ask if there are any special deals etc. Tell them you are looking at a few different gyms... and compare what they have to offer to the others. Most will lower the price just to get you to come in and talk to them.

Try and find a smaller gym. Most are just as good as the high profile gyms. And... whatever you do, DON'T give them your credit card number. It took me an attorney to get out from under the monthly charges!

I dont know where you live but join the YMCA if you can. just as good and cheaper.
