With all the beauty our species has discovered, science, art, music, litature and love. We are still capable of such terrible things. We still have a long way to go if we are to survive. We seem to be going in circles and we don't learn from our mistakes. All the conflicts we have fought has had their roots in religion and beliefs. And not one belief can be physically proven. So why do we put so much weight and energy to prove that one group is right and one is wrong.

I have been reading on this site, more and more athiests speaking up. The reason why so many are speaking out is we are trying to save our society. We know that all religions on our planet is simply a "mind virus" Something that inhibits believers from understand and accepting the truth on who we are and where we come from. A re-evaluation iof our most sacred beliefs is needed in order for us to survive. Let's stop hanging on to the ancient beliefs that most religions are based on.

What I believe in is not called "faith" that is a waste of time. Believing in something you have no proof on is meaningless. I believe the things science shows us because science, at it's basic level, is the search for the truth. Religion tries to tell you the truth with ancient stores invented by people who had an extremly limited knowledge of the universe.

The peace of mind I have now by understanding Science and logic, is beyond anything religion could ever touch. When I look up at the night sky and see the universe, I see that is way too much for one God to create. We put God in the picture because we humanize things in our life in order to better understand it. We do it everyday, we give our pets names and talk to them, when they have no idea what we are saying. It helps people make sense of lives in human terms. But why should be Universe conform to our beliefs?

And that would be your opinion. I believe in God. I believe he wants us to live peacefully. So does that make me a bad person?

is it so hard for you to belive there are things tht you can't see, that other people can?

that there are things beyond your understanding and perception?

that there are things that are real, but cannot be proven by the current methods of science, or universally observed?

what is your FAITH that nothing that cannot be physically proved, exists, based on?

your missing my question,
my question, is why are you so certain that nothing that cannot be CURRENTLY physically proven, exists?

how many scientific things do we know for a fact, and have observed, and proven to exist now, could not have been proven 100 or 200 years ago? were they less real then? does the fact that our technological means and power of observation has advanced, make things real that were not real before?

whats real is real, the fact that something cannot be physically proven at this time, does not mean it doesn't exist.

your view that if it can't be physically proven, it doesn't exist, is illogical, unscientific, and just as faith based, if not more, than the religious views.

I have PERSONALLY experienced things, FIRST HAND that prove to me beyond a doubt, that some things are real, and true, and so. these expeirences prove it to be so to me, just as much as looking at something through an electron microscope would show me something exists.

in fact even MORE so. I don't know or really understand the means of presentation, or what I'm looking at, if I look at soemthing through an electron microscope. for all I know it could be entirely fake.
with things I've spiritually observed and experienced, its on my own terms, I can test it on my terms, and I understand it, and its context.

do you have so little confidence in your own perceptive powers that you don't see things as real unless others tell you that they are real?

ok, your problem is DEFINITELY an issue of what you define as God, because that just doesn't make sense to me. I don't think your understanding the vastness and magnitude of what some people call God. its quite the contrary for most people who belive... they look at the sky and see an ordered, systematic universe, thats too big, and too complex, and too consistent to have NOT been designed by an intelligent force.

It's awesome that you look outside of the box like that.

Anyway, religion is a way of life that affects people strongly sometimes. More and more people are starting to look outside like that too, with Atheism and such. This way, we really might start to survive better because we have less to create conflict.

I don't agree that all conflicts are rooted in religion. It seems to me that many conflicts are rooted in the desire to take that which others have claim to. Many of these such conflicts may have religious overtones, but ultimately, it is faith in the state itself that drives invading soldiers to fight. This is why you do indeed find atheists in fox holes.

C'mon, skunk. I know you've got a heart in there somewhere...;)

Look up at the night sky and wonder at the beauty and complexity and wonder of it all. Open your heart and mind and say to yourself "God, fill me with your presence. I want to know you."

There are many, many scientists who went looking for God's absence, and wound up becoming Christians. Think about it. Lighten up.

i agree with you.. so much..
but people only hear, see, and believe what they want.. yea.. its sad.. but its true... i say be done with the holy wars and the 'slaughter in the name of christ' mindset...
our problem is conversion... if instead, we talked everything out instead of constantly trying to convert others to a 'christian'.. 'or 'catholic'... or whatever.. way of thinking.. we can finally break that cycle.. but i dont think thats gonna happen...
