I don't know why someone said you shoulda done it at 7 months most doctors tell you not to do it any sooner than 1yr. Infact I got yelled at by a doctor for doing it sooner although I had a good reason. You really just have to do what you think is right. Staying on formula as long as they are eating other things as well is not going to hurt you baby in fact milk can cause eating problems and weight gain. The best way is to give them half formula and half milk for a while. I just switched em. They may throw it down a few times but eventually they will decide it's better than nothing. Just make sure that you don't make the same mistake I did. At one the bottle should not be their meal. Try a bottle in the morning, maybe nap time, and maybe bed time. Not through out the day because they get full and then they won't eat the other foods they should eat and they gain weight. My daughter did. When I cut down the amount of bottles she was drinking a day, not only did I save money on milk but she lost some of her chunkyness and she started eating the food I gave her. Good luck!

For my middle daughter (the only one who got formula for 2 months) I mixed her formula with regular milk a little at a time.6oz formula 2 oz milk. Everyday I would reduce the formula and add the milk until the milk was gone. I did warm the milk slightly so it wasn't chilled once there was more milk then formula. But after a few days I also stoped doing that too. I used a bottle while switching. Some don't recommend doing this but I found it to work well. Once my daughter was 18m I had her off a bottle completely and she was great with a cup.

I agree with 'creature', that method worked beautifully with my daughter - both when I weaned her from breast milk to formula, and from formula to regular milk.
Start small, like 6 ounces of prepared formula and add 2 ounces of regular milk. (You will get a weird facial expression, so be poised with a camera!!) But after the first couple of swallows, the strange taste apparently goes away. Then over the next 3 or 4 days slowly add more milk & less formula until you have 6 ounces milk and only 2 ounces formula. Once that bottle is drained, you are home free!

I always started off substituting a couple of bottles a day with vit d milk. Then after a few days lose the formula all together. They will love milk! Be sure to watch out for any allergies to milk as well. Good luck! Also, if your baby is on the bottle and you are interested in taking that too, just put all the vit d milk in a sipy cup and he/she will learn to take that because it tastes better.

I have always started doing 3/4 formula to 1/4 milk and gradually doing more milk than formula.

say im using a 6oz bottle:
for the first 2-3 days do 5 ounces formula to 1 ounce milk
then do 4 ounces formula to 2ounces milk--2-3 days
3ounces/3ounces--2-3 days
2ounces/4 ounces--2-3 days
1ounces/5 ounces--2-3 days
and 6ounces milk. youve now weaned your 1yr old off formula!

If he/she's on regular formula, you could try just switching cold turkey, because formula is derived from cow's milk. If he/she's on special formula, consult your doctor.
If you're not comfortable with the cold turkey method, I'd suggest substituting a portion of formula for regular milk, for example: in an 8 oz bottle, put 6-7 oz formula to 1-2 oz milk, and increase the amount of milk every few days (6-7oz formula, 1-2oz milk...4-5oz formula, 3-4oz milk...etc.)

I don't think you should give the kid cow milk, give him stage 2 formula, then when they are 2, they can have rice milk, or rice milk now. I would never give someone cow milk. Cow Milk has so many hormones. If you will give your kid something that a mom cow gives her babies, why not rat milk, or dog milk? What makes Cow Milk good. Most cows at the dairy are pregnant, and they have lots of extra hormones. Dad used to own a dairy farm!

We didn't.
One day, after each kid's first birthday, we just gave each a sippy of milk. And we watched to make sure there were no allergy issues, and that was that.
Transition wasn't hard: the kids WANTED to be drinking out of sippies and drinking milk like grown-ups, so it was easy.
