N/A = not availabe. Not availabe means that he/she is not available to chat with you. Away means he/she is not in front of the computer/doing something else. In other words, not available means SHUT UP JEEZE I"M DOING SOMETHING. Away means I"LL GET BACK TO YOU!!

I don't know what "icq" is, but "away" means that the person in not in and N/A means that they are not available. Maybe they are in the bathroom, or on another line or just don't want to talk with you; Unavailable to you somehow.

Being away means that the person or thing is not there ....
N/A stands for not applicable which means it does not apply to that

"Away" means literally away.

"N/A" means Not Available or Not Applicable. Depends on how you look at it.
