I am a christian and i dont take the virgin birth story of our lord as a literal story. This is my understanding of the story. when the bible says that our lord had a virgin birth it means that human life alone could not produce a person with loving qualities such as our lord.
have i said it right?

What is it about the story that you believe? Just that YOU will be saved. Guess again.

There are two conflicting stories in the Bible. The first in Matthew 1:2-17 and the second in Luke 3:23-38. They are both completely different, but Matthew is the one most scholars agree on. That is where the "Christmas Story" comes from.

It has to be literal. If it were not literal it would make the prophets wrong when they stated that our Messiah would be born of a virgin.

It is true that the bible states that none born of humans is good enough. But Jesus Christ was not made as humans produce children. he was placed into Mary's virgin womb at approximately three months gestation as she was only pregnant for six months. Mary was married, but as custom at the time, her husband had not yet come to claim her. She still lived at home with her parents. There was a one year waiting period as per custom at this time.

When Joseph was told that she was with child, he was troubled about this because he knew he had not yet been with her. He considered divorcing her in private, so that she would not be publically stoned to death.

As you can see from the extreme attention to detail of the story, it is literally what happened.

Do you believe that Jesus passed through the locked doors in the upper room? Why then do you have a problem believing in the Virgin Birth?
