It’s called free will.
You have choices to make every minute of every day.
Do you choose to say something knowing it will hurt someone’s feelings or do you choose to say something encouraging to the person?
Do you lie about a situation or tell the truth?
On and on it goes every single day. Some choose the wrong/hurtful/harmful things, others choose to do what is uplifting and helpful.

supernerdolv1,
As you have noticed FREE WILL is an important part of the answer. The other part is all the TESTING - GOD has set up for everyone. The good people are tested to see if they'll stay strong in their belief and moral upbringing. The bad are tested to see if they will turn from the path of darkness (?) to return to GOD. (Many do return to believing in GOD.) Also PRAYER is involved. Involvement in the community - your ACTIONS that help others, are very important.
Keep praying for the bad people, and for your enemies. Prayer works! Your teacher is just pushing you harder than other adults, he wants you and your class mates to THINK, not just sit there. GOD did not make robots - but thinking - caring - doers - that will keep their communities together and united. Religious class is not a brain dead place, like pick a class in school that you sleep through, (i.e. math or P.E.) - to get the most out of believing in GOD you have to be active, involved, and thinking.
Sorry, weirdos (like me) are never understood, so maybe try, a question or two, you'll be surprised. (How could he get past all the parents and program director?)
You can check with your parents - I bet your teacher is NOT weird.
So to review: free will, testing, prayer, actions, oh and thinking for yourself, not floating like drift wood through life.

It's a trick question. Good and Bad is relative to the believer. If there are many kinds of religions then it is likely that there are many kinds of right and wrong which would mean that everyone is in some way right and wrong, depending on who you ask. Consider the world religions; Muslims think everyone else is going to hell; specific sets of Christians think that everyone else is going to hell even groups that would be considered Christian (Catholics); Catholics think if you aren't a good person or do good works you are possibly going to hell; Buddhists and Hindu's think that you get reincarnated until you figure out the right answer (basically). There are Good and Bad people because the definition of Good and Bad are made up by people not God.

First of all, don't feel like you're the only person who has asked this question. If you didn't question other people in "authority" you'd be a follower and would never know the truth. Most people simply accept what they are taught and never learn to think.
People are just people. We are all an expression of God. What may seem good to you may seem bad to another person. For example, if you were in the military and an individual was attacking your ship, then you shot and killed this individual, you would be considered "good" by your nation. But if you were to go to that indivudual's mother, and tell her that you shot and killed her child do you think that she would see you as a good?
Be careful with your teacher. He is attempting to define good and bad for you. If you simply accept his opinion you're being conditioned to think the way that he thinks. Learn to take an extra step and question why people do the things they do. Don't be quick to accept the norm. And don't categorize people. Learn the motives of people and protect yourself from those who may potentially harm you. Unite with those who love you and who will build you up.

Originally, all things that now exist WERE created by God, including angels, humans, and our physical universe. Some of these created things were given the gift of sentience, or the ability to think independently of their creator, as well as a free moral will, ie, the ability to make informed decisions based on a knowledge of right/wrong.
We only know of 2 forms of sentient being: angel and human. If there are others that exist (and there may be) we have simply not encountered them yet.
Some of the original sentients (angels) decided to rebel against the natural order of their universe; one even tried to overthrow God. These angels are what we now call demons. They are actively at war with God right now. Unfortunately, we are caught in the middle of that war, by their (the demons' ) deliberate action and design.
At some point, after creating the Angelic beings, God created Humans. He started with 2, whom we call "Adam" and "Eve" ("Red Earth" and "Living One", when translated). Before they could have children, they were tempted to join the demonic rebellion against God, and being chumps, they joined, thinking they would become just like God in the bargain. Too late, they realized their error. Their DNA had been altered on a spiritual level, and now all their progeny would be "born into" the wrong camp.
While all life finds its origin in God, not all actions do. "Sin" is actually a twisting or warping of an otherwise "good" action (there is really nothing original in sin).

The bible says that there are none good, not one. No one is without sin. When you accept Jesus as your savior, you don't all of a sudden become a "good" person. What happens is, you take on the righteousness of Jesus Christ. His blood, spilled on Calvary 2,000 years ago, reaches forward through time and washes away every sin you have ever committed. Does that mean you will never sin again? No, it doesn't mean that. It means you are forgiven. And when you stand before God at judgment, God will see only the perfection of His son.
It may look like there are some good people, and some bad people, but not according to God. According to the bible, God's word, there was only one who ever lived without sin; that was Jesus Christ.

.Perhaps our creators intention was for us to make our own decisions and not to interfere with our growth if it be bad or good.
That way we are free and responsible for all our thoughts and deeds > this might account for so many religious beliefs and allow for us all to grow and be independent in our thoughts and actions That is freedom of thought and belief , isn't that a wonderful gift to all of us. Therefore there doesn't have to be a heaven and hell as a finality but something for all of us. Perhaps no finality instead a rebirth or what ever we want to believe This would account for so many Religions in the world all having credence and more of a possibility of having love for all.

Psalm 14:3
All have turned aside, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.
Isaiah 64:6
All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.
Mark 10:18
"Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good—except God alone.
There aren't good people and bad people there are just sinners. The better terms are right and wrong or righteous and wicked, righteous meaning follows God (at least in faith) and wicked meaning opposes God (at least in faith).
Something is only a good deed in the eyes of the Lord if it is something done to glorify God such as attending church or being charitable (despite the fact that the person doing it may have the wrong motives), contrarywise something is a wrongful deed to God if it is offensive or in opposition to Him such as murder or cursing against God.

It's called "free will", sister. God could have made us all robots but instead he gave us Free Will to make decisions. Some people make good decisions and some make bad decisions. There are still opposing forces (God and the Devil) that rule the earth. Don't be confused. God is good..and evil will test you.

Some people listen to God and try to do good and some people listen to the devil and want to do bad. We have a choice, and if we want to ask Jesus into our life, God will help us do right. We are not robots though, if we wanted to we could sin. The bible tells us when we follow Jesus we are rewarded with heaven. Every other way leads to hell.
