My friend has a 1996 Dodge Stratus with a 2.4 Liter auto transmission in it. It does not leak oil or does not have blue looking smoke coming out of it or anything but she has to add 1/2 quart of oil about every 1500 miles. Where is the oil going? oh yeah, it has around 120,000 miles on it and she keeps it serviced very well.

Does this have to be repaired or can she continue to drive it and just keep check on the oil level?

It does sound as if your valve seals are worn allowing the oil to seep through and burn. It is almost impossible to see the smoke in the daytime, but look in your rear view mirror when there is an auto behind you, then let off of the accelerator, you will see the smoke in their headlights.

i own a repair shop,,and the valve stem seals are bad on it,,it lets it burn a small amount of oil,,barely enough to notice, but it will allow it to burn a small amount of oil,,but you will never see it smoke any at all,,this is a simple job to do if you have the right tools to do it with,,but it takes some time to do,the seals cost about 8 dollars, and a few hours to put them in,,good luck i hope this help,s,,i have put a lot of those in before.

1/2 qt every 1500 miles? thats 1 qt every 3000 miles. i dont see anything wrong with that. i have had many vehicles that used way more than that.
