Your kitten probably needs to have his anal glands expressed. Take him to the vet as soon as possible. Anal glands are usually expressed naturally when an animal defecates , but in some animals (especially in overweight ones!) they cannot express them themselves. It is a quick and usually painless outpatient procedure and not usually too expensive. At the vet clinic where I work we charge $10 to do the procedure.

It could also possibly be hookworms. If your kitten has hookworms, they could be irritating his anus and causing him to itch it on the ground. Your vet can do a fecal and tell you if he has worms. If you don't want to do the fecal, you can go ahead and deworm him anyway. It doesn't hurt to deworm a kitten even if he doesn't have worms.

The anal glands are more likely the problem though.

Hope this helps and good luck to your kitty!

probably has worms, not as big of a deal as you may think. common for mother to pass it on to kittens. Bring to a vet, with stool sample. The worms will be pretty evident when you collect poo. Sorry to deliver bad news, my puppy had same deal, rubbing but on floor, apparently the worms were hanging out- nastiest thing i almost ever saw, cant shake the image.

He has an itchy bum, probably from worms.

Vets will usually give a kitten a wormer at the first visit. Please don't say he hasn't been in to a vet yet for that and to start his series of kitten shots!

Take your kitten to the vet as soon as possible. He may have neurological or medical problems. It could also be worms. I had a female cat that did that and she died from feline leukemia.

Cats don't generally enjoy doing this as some dogs do. If a cat does it, it's generally because of irritation. Take him to the vet.

I'm not sure, but I know that that's what my female kitten did when she was in heat...strange.

If he is still doing that tomorrow, you need to bring him to the vet.
