1. Talk to your neighbor. Maybe they're unaware of their dog's activities, if they just let it out the door and ignore it. It's amazing what a calm, mature attitude can achieve, instead of stomping over there red-eyed with steam blasting out your ears!

2. Every time their dog poops in your yard, scoop it up, put it in a plastic bag and leave it on their front porch. If they complain, you're just returning their property, after all.

3. Fence in your yard. Mark Twain said "Good fences make good neighbors".

4. Talk to your other neighbors, especially those on the other side of the dog owner to see if they have the same problem with the roaming dog. There is strength in numbers if you need to file a complaint with the police department. You may be able to obtain a restraining order so your neighbors will be forced to keep the animal chained. If it gets free and roams again, you will have legal precedent for the dog's removal by the authorities.

5. If none of the above works, you could tell the neighbors that if their dog finds its way onto your property again and it eats meat laced with poison, it won't be your fault. DON'T DO it, though!!!!....... but sometimes a threat is the last resort if your neighbors are absolutely unreasonable and won't respond to legal means. If you actually put out poison and children get poisoned you would be guilty of at least manslaughter, so just use this as a threat.

Good luck. Sometimes it's better to put up with a small amount of poop and have friendly relations with your neighbors than to completely alienate them and deal with the nastiness.

Thanks for realizing it ISN'T the dog's fault. Too often, people decide to poison a dog for natural behavior.

But I'd like to know more before condemning the neighbor. Is there a fence? Is the neighbor an apathetic jerk, or a little old lady who lets the dog wander? Is the dog's yard so nasty it's looking for a new bathroom? Is it tied to a tree most of the time?

If the neighbor is an irresponsible jerk, you can report them. They usually get warnings before the animal would be confiscated. You might be doing the dog a favor.

If the neighbor is a little old lady (or similar), talk to them first, without going crazy. Dog poop in a yard is not worth killing over. Some neighbors cause much bigger headaches then a pile of poop three times a week.

The dog needs to be walked several times a day, on a leash, right after eating. If your neighbor is open to suggestion, and isn't a frazzled Mom with four kids, let them know you don't appreciate the dog poop in your yard, and recommend that someone walk the dog (ELSEWHERE) to solve the problem for everyone.

There's no point in making enemies over something that can be easily solved.

Good luck to you.

Hope this helps.

If you've got some extra time and you know when your neighbor tends to walk the dog (assuming this is what is happening), put your lawnchair in your yard, get a good book and wait. When your neighbor walks by, put your book down, fix him (or her) with a meaningful look and say, "Howdy, neighbor." That right there (being called on it without a word about the poo actually being said) would be enough to change the bad habits of a mostly-decent person. Give that a shot first.

You can try and talk to your neighbor about their dog using the bathroom on your lawn. If they don't care or just never correct their dog from going into your yard you can pick up dog repellent from a local petstore. Don't use the sprays because they was away too quickly....get the granulated stuff. That should keep thier dog out of your yard without pissing off the nieghbors or upsetting the dog.

Take the poop and throw it back over there. If you have dogs, take them to the neighbor's yard to do their business. Pay back.

1) "Hey, Ted, how you doing? That's great. Hey, I've noticed Rover over here pretty often.. y'know, doing his business. Could you supervise him from now on? Thanks"

2) "Ted- I spoke to you last Thursday regarding Rover. I saw your dog again yesterday, squatting in my yard. I understand that you like your lawn to stay nice. I feel the same way about my own lawn. Please keep Rover's toileting under control, or I will be returning his "deposits" to your front porch.
Signed, Me"

3) "Mr T. Jones- I asked you twice last month to control your dog's toileting or pick up after him. You haven't done that. From now on, I will be calling Animal Conrol when I see him in my yard.
Signed, Me"

4) "Hello, Animal Control? Yes, Officer Smith- My neighbor has a dog that has been going to the bathroom in my yard. I've asked him a couple different times to control or pick up after the animal. Yes, the dog is in my yard again. Could you come get the animal? Thanks."

Rude neighbor! If you are not brave enough to say something to your neighbor then write them an anonymous letter telling them that their dog is pooping in the neighborhood and that they should be more responsible by accompanying their dog for poop walks. Either that or keep picking it up!

If you see him do it and he generally does it at the same place put a sprinkler near that place. Then the next time you see him start to do his business turn on the sprinkler. I did that. He had already squatted and was getting ready to proceed and when the water came on he was apparently sort of paralyzed and tried to run away but couldn't. It was a funny sight but he never came back.
