Plano is a very nice place to live. I think you will like it. I suggest that you visit first and explore a bit before you bring your family if you can. Good luck.

I grew up in Plano, I graduated from Plano Sr High in 1991. When I was growing up there it was on the fringe of Dallas, and it was rapidly growing. It was a great place to live. There was no lack of things to do for a kid, then again that was the 80's and roller rinks and arcades were the hangouts of the time.
Today Plano is fully grown out and Dallas runs all the way out to Plano. McKinney and Frisco are now what Plano was when I was growing up... IE fringe suburbs. Though Frisco is nearly flush with Plano these days as well.
Plano does have great schools, lots of activities, lots of college prep, AP courses, Sports, Band, Drill Team, Drama, Choir, you name it the schools have it.
Plano does have some mega rich people on the far west side of town. Plano is mostly middle class through upper middle class. There is a pretty high level of materializism that pervades the area as a result. (this was less noticed on the East side)
I have kids now and I would have no problem raising my kids in Plano, but I am not living in Texas anymore. We are moving in about a year and the North Dallas area is on our list of possabilities, though we might look in Frisco and McKinney to be a little farrther out of Dallas, but even so Plano is still on our list.

I live in North Dallas, and Plano is nice and there are a variety of things to do and places to go. Don't forget you are not far from Dallas and other surrounding cities. It is ok for the most part. Lots of opportunities and the school system is great. There isn't much violence in Plano, but I won't say that about Dallas.

Plano is a great city! Located in lovely north Dallas just south of Frisco. You will have tons of restaraunts to choose from, malls, shopping centers, and stuff for the whole family. Both of my daughters were born at Presbetyrian Hospital of Plano. There are probably about 3 major hospitals, and a bunch of smaller specialst and doctors offices. Plus the job market in the area is phenominal. You will never have a dull weekend because there is always so much to do. Trust me, you will love it!!!!!!!!!!!

Plano is very nice. North Plano is even better. Frisco, which is a little further north, is really nice and growing rapidly.
I lived in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex until about two years ago. I now live in north central Arkansas. While I really enjoy living here, I'd move back to DFW in a heartbeat.
If you like St. Louis, you'll love DFW!!!

Plano is in the Dallas metroplex. Obviously, it has excellent health care and social opportunities (opera, concerts, pro sports, college lecture series, etc.) The school system is excellent.
If you want to avoid problems, you won't find Shangrai-La in Plano.

Plano WAS a good place to live. It does have pretty highly rated schools but has also developed a reputation for teenage drug use and suicide. Tons of pressure from high achieving parents for their kids to be best and participate in everything. Money has traditionally flowed freely and there are many "children" of influence.

all the Metroplex -- Dallas, ft worth and surrounding suburbs-- is amazingly diverse. the version is that the blacks, whites, Asians and Latinos that stay in Plano have funds. And definite they get alongside. in my opinion Plano has the perfect college district. once you've a BSN the hospitals will be knocking on your door.

Plano is VERYYYYYY slow paced alot different than St. Louis. It's really open and lots of land not many ppl and NOTHING to do there AT ALLLLL you'll be lucky to see more than 2 Mc Donalds and if you are used to a city, trust me you'll hate it. If you like the Country living then It's for you but if you don't wanna Drive Miles to see ppl or Shop then NOOOO don't move lol I live in Austin Tx area and plano Is BORING
