Those who said Seurat, "Sunday Afternoon on the Island of the Grande Jatte" are correct [if your description is accurate]. When I last saw it it was in Chicago, at the Art Institute. It was in the Helen Birch Bartlett Collection. It is a very important work in the development of modern art because it bridges the naturalism of the time and the emerging attitudes towards the use of colour and form that were to be a feature of the Twentieth Century. It is a large canvas, about 2 1/2 m.x 3 1/2 m. When you think of Seurat's style, it would have taken one hell of a lot of work to complete!

Got it.

It is called "La Grande Jatte" -- and is by George Seurat.

Exactly as you described. I knew what it was. Had to look it up in a book 1st.

Enjoy. All the best.
