Running your mouth, moving around, trying to adjust the cuffs when they're on too tight or anything else the cops can think of to show you who is El Jefe.

This is how the law is written in IL

Sec. 31‑1. Resisting or obstructing a peace officer or correctional institution employee.
(a) A person who knowingly resists or obstructs the performance by one known to the person to be a peace officer or correctional institution employee of any authorized act within his official capacity commits a Class A misdemeanor.

This is extremely vague and for cause. By leaving the law vague and without further defining the cause will allow officers to use more discretion in application of the above. This can also change by county to county as it relates to the States Attorney (DA whatever your state calls them). In our county we are advised that if a subject refuses a lawful order and physical force is necessary to effect an arrest. As for lying or hindering an investigation here, it would normally be charged as an Obstruction of Justice charge. This is a real kicker. If you lie to an officer about your name to conceal a warrant, you will get the felony version of the Obstruction. If you give false information during the investigation of a felony, you will get the felony charge. Check your state's website for more information on what constitutes a resisting arrest charge.

Not obeying the officers command to stand, hand behind back and so on.

And for sure anytime the officer has to use any degree of force to arrest a person it is resisting. ( although they are not always charged with it, since some officers assume it is just part of making an arrest)

for example if the officer told you to stop you were under arrest and you run or just keep walking you are resisting the arrest. Even peaceful resistance, locking your arms together, not standing and making the officer drag you

It varies from state to state but for the most part it means doing anything that interferes with the officer doing his job. Fighting with the officer, refusing to be handcuffed or fleeing from the police are all some examples of resisting arrest.

Pretty-much anything the damn cops say is resisting, is resisting. They can lie about your case, hurt you, scream at you, and until Americans take back their rights, with guns if need be, then the cops will always think they have the upper hand.
That's why our Founding Fathers included the Right To Keep And Bear Arms in the Bill of Rights. So that not only could we protect ourselves against enemies from abroad, but also from enemies domestic. In other words, rogue cops. The only way to ensure against a totalitarian police state is if the police know that we as citizens can fight back.
Unless, of course, you're actually guilty of whatever crime they accuse you of. Then it's best to act like an adult and accept the punishment.

If that's what you (or an acquaintance) was arrested for, then you have a pretty accurate idea of what meets the necessary criteria for this kind of trouble. Your question gave no details, so it's hard to say more than that.

Jerking around, throwing your body around, lying, not following explicit orders, trying to get away, walking away, jumping into a car, acting in a threatening manner, and anything else they want to use. They don't want the bad guys getting let out on petty charges. Basically anything non-submissive.
