I don't think Islam specifically names hula as forbidden. Hula dances, unlike bellydancing, does not focus on sexuality. Some of the moves may *look* sexual, but actually aren't. Some dances may represent stories dealing with sex, but not all dances revolve around sex. However, some aspects of hula costuming would probably be considered taboo to Islamic women due to their dress code.

Although there is a lot of bellydancing in the middle east, this dance is probably more Arabic than Islamic (the two are not one in the same). Islamic women are to be modest in their dress and demenor; therefore, it's a probably safe bet that bellydancing is considered taboo to Islamic women since this dance style focuses on a woman's sexuality.

I think you are making the same mistake that many people in YA are making.

There is a difference beteween culture and religion. Bellydancing is not Islamic. It's a form of traditional entertainment, just like Arabic music is.

i dont think religions created Dancing and Music?. werent they a species called homosapiens who created music and dance?. well i dont think it was Christianity that created or allowed Hula but it were the people. well is it now that people do not know who created what?.

Today there are 14 million Arabs who are Coptic Christians i.e. Christians since generations. So dont think that all the arabs are muslim & they all involve in belly dancers.
