You need at least three ground wires, or better yet, braided ground straps. 1) engine to body, 2) body to frame, and 3) dash panel instrument cluster to body. You might need other ground wires too depending on the car, but these three are essential.

customdre's answer was the best so far but i would add 1 more thing, use a lockwasher over the o-ring, and don't forget to sand the paint off you need bare metal.... the ground is the most important. an amp can only take in as much current as it is expelling. the lock washer is important because if you have good bass your ground bolt might loosen up. seatbelt bolts work really good also, but sand the paint.

...also use a self tapping bolt. At least 7/16" to any metal of the chassis (watch out for wires, gas tank, etc.). The ground should be as short as possible (less than 18").

Make sure you have the shortest thickest ground wire possible and put it straight to the metal chassis of the car using a good locking wasker/bolt

it goes to pretty much any metal part in your car. just make sure that this metal part is big and in some way leads to the battery, which most likely does. the wall or bottom of the trunk is fine, just make sure you sand some paint off to give a good connection and screw into an eye connector so it doesnt fall out and short.
