fringe that continually denounce the decadence, sexuality, etc. found in Western culture (and I'll even agree that there sure is much of both) often seem to have the goal of gaining what seems like riches, sexual excesses (40 virgins??), etc. by becoming martyrs through acts of extremism. I admit I know very little about Islam and I honestly don't mean to offend members of this faith; it's just the extremist fringe always seemed to be a paradox for me (denouncing the immorality, overt sexuality, material excesses, etc found in Western culture and yet hoping martyrdom will bring them women, riches, etc- furthermore trying to achieve this by committing an immoral act of murder). Moslems (Muslims) in particular, could you please respond? Maybe I'm totally mistaken; what "rewards" are these martyrs supposed to gain? I know the vast majority of Moslems are good, peaceful people and please take this opportunity to discuss any other stereotypes (Western) society seems to have about Islam.

Islam forbids trying to enforce Islamic ideals onto other people. THerefore no nation is completely Islamic. There are always people who have poor faith and commit sins. It is their choice but it is Islamic duty to remind them of their mistakes.

The west is condemned as they have no problem with decadence, sexuality, etc... which is actually a huge moral and social issue in Islam so that is why Muslims are concerned about it. What makes it worse is that western culture influences the people of poor faith and that is how they become as they are. That is why they denounce western culture.

the riches u talk about is in the afterlife for Muslims. If a Muslim is admitted into heaven, she/he gets whatever they wish. Its one of the promises made by Allah (sw) that good Muslims will get heaven. Therefore, Muslims today use it as a reminder and motivation to be Islamic. Islam does not accept extreamism or terrorism. But if you are slain while protecting Muslims and fighting for Muslims you become a martyr. And in exchange for sacrificing a whole life on earth, there is reward for that.

i hope it answers your question. Martyrdom is not something you strive for, its something that just happens when you are slain when protecting and fighting for Muslims (not terrorism, Muslims are only allowed to fight back in self-defense).
