Sometimes it's because the dog wasn't trained as a puppy. Some of the more aggressive and strong willed breeds need to go to obedience class as soon as they are old enough. They need to learn that the owner is the boss. I don't mean that they should be treated badly, just that they need to understand authority......and yes I agree, if it is a case of being mistreated by a human being, then that is whole different situation. Either way, it is the responsibility of the human to see to it that the dog is properly trained and treated well & with respect.

You did not give enough information here for anyone to respond with any intelligence. IS the dog suddenly biting? Is it a new dog or a long-time pet? Is the dog biting in a play situation or if she's treated roughly?

My first response is that dogs bite humans out of fear, training or pain. Very few dogs are naturally aggressive or sociopathic enough to go after a human with NO PROVOCATION. Please provide more info about your particular situation so that we can respond with specific answers, not wild guesses.

Thank you.

The dogs should not be biting anyone much less the owners. Are the dogs being mistreated?

Hi there;

Dominance. Any dog that bites the owner is out of control and will bite again too. Such a dog is a danger to themselves, to the community they are kenneled in (the neighbors) and to the family members.
Dogs have their place in the pack, in the absence of an alpha female and/or male they will assume the position of alpha status. With alpha status comes the "license" to put pack members (humans are seen as pack members) in their place with a bite or other acts of aggression.

I feel that maybe the owner is not taking total care of them, or they had a tramatic time in the past. Otherwise, I would have no idea why they would bite out of the blue.

I was stunned yesterday because I have a 6 yr old German Shepard named Joshua and within the 6 yrs since I've had him he's been over protective me which is why I can't explain what happened. After feeding and getting ready to walk him I caught peeing on the floor and I told him "You know better" and he bit my index finger drawing blood and now our relationship has changed because I don't trust him anymore and I'm considering turning him over to a shelter. I relocated for this dog and have spoiled him but I don't know what to do. Since the incident he's attempted to put his head on my lap but I refuse to acknowledge him because the trust and bond has been broken. Any advice

I agree, more info needed.

Generally speaking, you can try two things:

1. Lots of exercise. Run with your dog. A tired dog is a well-behaved dog.

2. "Dog Whisperer" is all about making sure your dog knows who is the top dog in his pack (uh, that must be you). Watching it is free...

I've had my Boxer for almost 7 years. Never bit me yet. Either afraid of the owner, or treated with a lot of cruelty. :( Good Luck ! :)

Because people insist on treating them like 'furbabies' so the dog thinks it is pack leader.
