SO you gett one cat, and she gets pregnant and next thing you know you have 5 and thats a lot of money to shell out for spay and neutering and then you have 25 or more cats, My question is, is it wrong to give more than 1 cat to someone on a special occassion like a Birthday or for Holidays? or is it only appropriate to give one cat at a time

theres really nothing better than bringing home the whole litter, then you can have an awesome 'kitten pit', its great fun for everyone. until bruce made us take 'em back,,, bummer.
how about in a basket on the porch with a note?

You said "next thing you know you have 5 and thats a lot of money to shell out for spay and neutering and then you have 25 or more cats"
Sounds like the neutering and spaying ain't workin'!
Take the whole load of kitties to the ham-handed hack you call a vet,and tell him to find homes for them!
You jokester you....

NEVER give a cat (or other animal) as a gift unless you are sure that the person wants that particular animal.

If you have a lot of cats, ask the person if he or she would like one and let them pick out the cat they want. If you just give someone a pet, it will more than likely end up at the animal shelter or worse.

The ONLY answer for you is to find a good home for the mother cat and any kittens you may have managed not to pawn off on others. You are not a responsible pet owner if you can not or will not have the mother spayed. Not only is she producing obviously unwanted kittens, it is not healthy for her to keep reproducing. Perhaps you would be better off with fish!

I would suggest spay and neuter and don't give them away to people who haven't asked - ever.

Advertise cats free to a good home - OR for a low price so people see they are worth something, not disposable.

If I knew you had a cat problem and you tried to give me a kitten for my birthday, etc. we would no longer be friends. Cheap ***! Get the problem fixed by spaying the mom and go sit your selfish butt in front of Safeway somewhere to give them away and hope for the best! Giving kittens away for presents, what's wrong with you?

It is often best to have cats in pairs so they have a playmate. But you should not give them as gifts without the parent giving permission.

so, I'm guessing everyone you know is getting kittens for presents? i guess it's ok to give more than one, if the person wants them. otherwise your just a nuisance with your kittens. and maybe you should get your cat fixed and you won't have this problem..or keep it inside so it doesn't get pregnant.

I don't think it is appropriate to give cats/dogs as birthday gifts.
