I just got a copy of my credit report. It shows a judgement filed for $1600 from Remit Corp. I know that's a collection agency. How can I find out what the original bill is from> For the life of me, I can't remember. It's from 3 years ago.

You need to contact the collection agency and they should be able to tell you who the original bill was from.

After you get it cleared up (either by paying in full, or if they offer you a settlement say they will consider the debt cleared if you paid $900), make sure you get a letter that your debt is paid in full or a settlement offer was accepted. By doing this you will have documentation that everything is cleared.

At the present time I am having problems with 1 company, which had 2 cards that I had a settlement offer from. Both were settlements, both were paid about 5 years ago, I have letters for both of them and unfortunately, the original creditor is trying to collect on the balance which is wrong as they offered me a settlement which means I paid what they asked and they wrote the rest off (though it is considered income to me if it was over $500 by the IRS). I have been going round and round with every collection agency in the country, I've faxed each and everyone of them the settlement letters and for some unknown reason the original creditor keeps sending it to other agencies to try and collect on something they wrote off. It's bizarre! In fact, I had someone call tonight and I just got so fed up with it I read him the riot act. I told him I was tired of this BS, tired of faxing everyone the settlement letter and he could tell the original creditor to check their records and stick it in their ear. Yes I was having a bad day.

But, please do make sure you get a letter from the creditor stating that you either accepted & paid their settlement or paid the debt off in full. It will come in handy if it rears it's ugly head many years down the road (I speak from experience.).

Good luck!

If there are errors on your credit checklist, dispute them with the credit bureaus. they're going to touch the creditor inquiring for verification. If the creditor does no longer respond to the credit bureau interior 30 days, the object would be bumped off. There are some 'credit' websites that advise disputing each thing interior the hopes the creditor won't respond and the object gets bumped off. do no longer waste some time attempting this. whether something does get bumped off, it is probable to return the subsequent time the creditor updates to the credit bureau. Disputing respected products could get you tagged via the credit bureau and you may have issues getting actual errors mounted interior the destiny.

You would need to contact the collection agency to get that information. You can also get a copy of your credit report for free by going to www.annualcreditreport.com. That is not the one you see on commercials which is not really free since you have to give your credit card number.
