having two excel programs running, both window closes when you are only trying to close one window or program. what should I do??

Click on the "X" that is inside not in the one of the outside. You are closing the application.

When in doubt, use the menus => go File - Close

This will close the current excel worksheet that is open, but will leave the application still loaded and leave other worksheets in the background still open.

Go to Menu bar, click on WINDOWS menu..you will find compare side by side.... if it doesnt work, at the bottom of your screen, just click on the file buttons switch between the two files.

Just open one then or why not work on both but on different sheets within excel

Click the x on the bottom of the large x in the upper right corner.

Just close the workbook not the application.

Close the SMALLER x, not the larger.
