My sister's son cannot sleep unless the light is left on. I keep telling her that this is not safe, but she insists he'll grow out of it eventually. Are there any known side effects to this problem and/or website articles for me to print for her?

He'll grow out of it like I did. I couldn't sleep in the dark when I was small (because I was afraid of certain things) but now I can't sleep (unless I've stayed up all night) unless it's pitch black.

It can cause nearsidedness. There is a light attatchment that dims the light over time. while the child is going to sleep the light gradually dims and then shuts off. This was helpfull with my daughter. Recent articles have shown that not sleeping with the lights off can cause nearsidedness. If your sister doesn't want her son to wear glasses she might want to work on him sleeping with maybe a hall light on with the door almost shut, or a light dimmer.

No lol.
Mind your business.

The only thing that is will do is waste electricity and possible make them sleep a bit lighter. However if the child fears the dark then they won't get a proper sleep in the dark.
