Henry VIII founded the Anglican Church or Church of England, but Mary restored relations with the Catholic Church thereafter.

There was infighting between Protestants and Catholics during that period.

The next Queen, forget her name, was still broad minded about Catholics but not as much as MAry and far less than Henry, then came King James and after that England was Angelican all the way, but this bothered the Puritans who felt is wasn't enough so they petitioined to come to America where they founded far more stringent Protestant faiths including Methodist, Presbyterians and Congreationalists.
