I have both an HP and Gateway laptop.
The HP is four years old, the Gateway I have had 6 months.

The only trouble I had with the HP was that the CD/DVD player quit working reliably after two years, then after 4 years the interior power source died. Yes, both major issues ... but still, not a bad record overall, and it was used many hours every day.

So far, I have had no problems with the Gateway at all, and hope it continues.

In my research, HP computers tend to fare a bit better in being consistently good, while Gateways performance is less consistence.

My Gateway laptop has no problems with my HP printer/scanner.
Be sure you have the right drivers installed.

Also, I have had an HP printer in the past that suddenly would not work with one computer .. and then after that just plain wouldn;t work with ANY computer ... even though up til then it had been fine. It appeared to be a software issue rather than hardware, but i never could resolve it.

Good luck!
