this is a very delicate question and the case should be dealt with by professionals --preferably. In the meantime before all breaks loose -- take "time off" from the job, or whatever was the person was doing -- and definitely give a rest period...
the rest should be dealt by professionals. It is a sad case -- this burned out -- and many people who experience it don't recognize it...Nature, hobbies, love, pets all would be of some help if appropriately introduced to this person's life.

they need to take a vacation or break from what they have been doing ....support them in stepping away from stress and overworking, think of some ways to help them calm down and relax. smooth music, have a lazy day or weekend, no worries allowed. have them take nice quiet walks, and forget about other peoples problems.. healing is important for this person.

It's also called a "nervous breakdown". My boyfriend just had that. I got him to a Psychriatrist. Had to tell his sisters and mom so that I had back up to get him to go. Good luck!
