I'd be concerned. It seems like this person has a secret, and the kind of secret that could possibly destroy the marriage. I'd try to get into marriage counseling right away.

After 17 years of being with someone you should not assume that it is for a bad reason.Maybe they are saving to take you on a trip,or buy you something nice.Or maybe you spend all the money so they have to start stashing it.Usually if someone is cheating money starts dissappearing so i wouldn't worry about it.

sometimes people need independence so maybe thats what it is about....because in marriage the two become one right? and that then goes for everything owned by the two....like money furniture kids etc.....but maybe this person just wants something that they could call theirs..........there are so many reasons why......and not entirely negative either
