The following was my answer in another post. I hope it fits here as well! Many of us are not "picking" on the Spanish (Mexicans). But we are against are the illegals. If you want to enter this country legally, then act like it and we will help you! If you are here to take advantage of the opportunities, I (We) will seek you out. Mexico is a great nation but to enter here you must act like it! Be proud of your heritage. You are a country on Old Souls and do deserve more. Do Not become so angry but work to achieve your goals in Peace!!!

If I visit France, I would expect to have to learn a little French. Even if it is only "I'm sorry, I do not speak French" or "Do you speak English"? The same with any other country! Learn enough to get by. If you have not attempted to learn some of the language, people (in general) will avoid you. If you make an attempt at it, they will try to help.
The USA was formed primarily by the English, this was the language which took. In time, English has morphed into a modge-podge of many languages. It will continue to change!
Business owners know that they have to make money to stay in business. To do that, they must cater to the people who live in their community. Thus, they hire people who can speak other languages. Their signs sport 2 or more languages because they know that not everyone speaks English.
There are a number of people in my community who are willing to teach others the language, often at no cost. A great many are willing to learn English this way. And, perhaps, at the same time, have the opportunity to learn something of another language.
Get used to it folks! English will probably continue to be the "Official Language" in the USA, but in order to get along, we are both going to have to give a little. That is until the USA becomes North Mexico. ;-)

No, I can't communicate in any other language, but this doesn't make me any better or worse than a bilingual person.
So, who's the hater now? Is it me because I only speak one language, or is it you, because apparently you are ignorant and prejudiced. I don't have a problem with Mexicans; I have a problem with anyone who acts the way you do.
I really don't like the idea of illegal immigration, but I know it will continue as long as Mexicans don't want to live in Mexico anymore. Just curious (and I don't mean to be racist) if Mexico is so great, then why are all the Mexicans leaving for the U.S.?
The only solution to illegal immigration is to make them legal some way.

The powerfull and rich love cheap lazy labor. Get on the boat the legal way like many of us immigrants did. I am Portuguese/Spanish and it took me and my parents 8 years to come here legaly. I went to school and got an education while at the same time paying my taxes. To tell you the truth though I don't think people hate Mexican. We just hate the fact that illegals sneak in here and suck out our ressouces. Besides if Mexico is so great why don't you all just stay there????

You sound proud of your country just as we are. You say you are against illegal immigration. So why don't you use your energy and bilingul abilities to teach your countrymen to make your proud country a better place to live with jobs that will sustain your families and have medical services that are equal to other countries?We speak English because that is what our country speaks.If we move to another country or have need of another language we will learn it.I am not prejudiced. I am worried about our country's financial situation,space for homes so no one will be overcrowded and have enough food,overcrowded schools with children not learning as they should( because the teachers must spend extra time teaching English as a second languague students English along with the regular classwork),programs for the poor being abused,social security running out and we give it to illegals(?),employment,health issues with so many coming in without our required immunizations,criminals sneaking in, terrorists,and many more issues that this nation has to face because of the overwhelming amount of illegals entering!Just enter correctly and there will be no problem! The beautiful thing about living in the US is that I don't have to speak any other language other than English.
If I were to live (I wouldn't) in Mexico, I would learn to speak Spanish. That doesn't change the fact that All undocumented aliens are illegal and criminals.
It will be a good day when the US changes it's border policies to mimic our corrupt, cesspool of a neighbor to the south. When our government finally figures out that Foxy has one good idea and follow his lead on how to detour illegals from entering our country.

Mexicans are a menace to America. The majority of them are lazy, nasty, un-ambitious, thieves and criminals. Not to mention what a huge burden they are to the system. They are always drunk and hanging out on every corner. They entered the country illegally and are sponging off taxpayers and have the nerve to say they deserve amnesty.
Law-abiding residents of gang-infested neighborhoods live in terror of the tattooed gangbangers dealing drugs, spraying graffiti, and shooting up rivals outside their homes. These Illegal Mexicans and their advocates speak loudly about what they think the U.S. owes them. Failure to enforce the law emboldens them. As a matter of fact, the non-enforcement of immigration laws in general has an even more destructive effect. It is high time that Americans – lawmakers and employers come to an understanding of the immigration policies and enforce it. The only way to shrivel up illegal immigration and its attendant train of criminals and terrorists is to remove the jobs magnet. As long as migrants know they can easily get work, they will find ways to evade border controls.

As you said, Mexico is a nation of many cultures, race and ethnic groups. However, we ARE in America, so it is taken as norm to speak English. And you are wrong: many schools have foreign language classes. At least you are using english to type on Y!A.
However, I dont know how to communicate with you via ideas because you seem to have made up your mind about a lot of things. see you at the voting booth.

I am bilingual, but I don't speak Spanish and see no need to.
I am also against illegal immigration, but too many businesses use illegal immigrant labor as an unfair economic advantage.

I don't hate Mexicans I hate criminals.I don't pick on Mexicans I pick on Criminals. Which other language would you prefer I use? Since I live in the USA I think English is fine. If I lived in another country I would use there language. Makes sense don't you think?
