I told my kid her headlights were on?

We were eating at Taco Bell and I let my kid know her headlights were on. I wasn't trying to be a jerk, I really feel she should wear more clothes.Anyway that ruined the meal pretty much and at home she cried to her mom about it, at lesat I think it was probably about this.

Basically how can I patch this up without backing down on my opinion, or using my wife as a go-between like some wuss dad (I mean I can talk to my own daughter thanks very much). I just need to figure the right thing to say to her.

You just need to talk to her and apologize. Just tell her that you weren't trying to be an a**hole and that it just came out wrong. And next time, don't make comments like that to your daughter, especially not in those words. That's very embarrassing. And maybe your wife needs to take her shopping for a padded bra...that usually eliminates the "headlights" problem.

I would first apologize for making such a crude comment. You need to explain to her why you said it. Definately use some finesse when you speak to her about it. Actually you may want your wife with you if she feels the same way so you put up a united front on the way your daughter is dressing. Kids don't come with manuals on how to raise them and we all make mistakes. However, a mistake isn't a mistake unless you Learn from it and correct what you did wrong!

But I do think you need to get to know more about young girls and what you should and should not say when it comes to things like that. Tell your daughter that you made a mistake and ask her to help you to understand. If you can get to the point that she can feel comfortable talking to you about things without you getting pissed off or embraced that will be the best thing for you and her.

meant well...and are concerned. But try being a little more
diplomatic, ya know. There is a certain way to talk to your kids
about personal things. So, just apologize to her for saying it the
way you did....she will feel better about you. She will see you as
