Shouldn't be too expensive for a small fossil like an ammonite or trilobite or something of that ilk, just look for fossil shops/rock shops in the phone book, they seem to be all over the place these days. But, a better present would be a geological hammer, and/or a book on fossils. Buy one fossil and you've got a fossil, but you've not had the fun of finding it.But the kick you get when you find a fossil in situ, it's amazing. I'm a geology graduate and in my thirties, and I still get excited when I find one. Depending on where you live there could be some great fossil hunting areas nearby.

Check out your local area. There may well be a quarry or even a beach nearby where you can go fossil hunting. Maybe try a nearby museum or your local library for a some assistance or advice on locations for fossil hunting.
My local beach when I was a boy was an amazing place to look for fossils.
Much nicer to find your own.

Do you live in UK ? there are a couple of good fossil shops in Lyme Regis Dorset. This coastline (Jurrasic Coast) is famous for its fossils and attracts hundreds of fossil hunters

Go in your backyard and dig them up? Or go to a museum and buy replicas.
