Usually I only pay attention to the whole dollar amount, so I'd probably miss anything less. However, should I realize that I had received too much back, my returning it would depend on my feelings towards the store and cashier. Most cases, that'd be a yes to returning it. If I had a really hard time with the cashier (I mean attitude, not cumulative mistakes or being new) or only grudgingly bought from the store, I'd keep it.

I always give the money back if over changed. That still happens from time to time even though most cash registers tell the amount of change to give back. People get in a hurry or are caught up in conversation with the customer. I think it is dishonest to keep the money. I once was given $10.00 to much but did not realize at the time, at home I ask my husband if he had given me a ten or twenty that morning ,he replied he had given me a ten. I returned to the fast food restaurant next day to return the ten. The manager listened to my story opened mouthed. He couldn't believe that I was returning the money. I guess there aren't many who would have. I do think most people are honest.

Depends on what the cashier is doing. If she's busy gabbing with the cashier in the other lane, or the customer (who happens to be a friend of hers) behind me, then you're damned right I'm keeping it! She's too busy to count change properly because she's busy socializing, then that extra change is mine! If, on the other hand, it's late at night, close to the end of her shift, she looks like she's had a long day, is very polite and friendly to me, then I'd definitely give it back.

I always give it back. I actually had one time where I took the extra change. The cashier argured with me for so long that I just took the extra $5 and left. I figured it was my payment for losing 5 minutes of my life trying to explain math to a fence post.

I'd have to give it back. Cashiers can be removed from their jobs if their drawer is off too many times or it's a large amount. I'd hate for someone to lose their job in exchange for receiving a few extra bucks.

Give it back, cashiers dont make a lot of money to begin with and shortages are oftentimes taken out of their pay and often lead to termination of employment. Cost someone their job for a few bucks nah I dont think so.

If I realized it right away, I would give it back. I was a cashier and know the problems that occur from a short drawer.

If it was something that I could tell right away, I would give it back. But if I got home (Or even to the parking lot), I would probably just shrug it off. Unless it was a HUGE mistake. Then I would go out of my way to return it.

i have many times pointed out the mistake and given the money back. Just as they do for me when I give them 5 instead of 4 or something like that.

give it back, I think the cashier has to make up the difference and they don't get paid much the way it is.
