BMI can be inaccurate for men, becaus it does not distinguish muscle weight from fat weight. However, it is fairly accurate for women because almost no women have enough muscle (30+ lbs) to significantly affect the BMI.

You should tell your doctor about your concerns. You may have a distorted image of what a "healthy" weight is.

ok, your bmi isnt 17, it's 18.8 according to this bmi calculator (one of the best i have found, and ive found alot)

http://www.halls.md/body-mass-index/bmi.htm
and technically, that is barely underweight so not remotely unhealthy at all especially if this is the natural weight your body tends to go to.

at around a bmi of 17.5 you start being labled as "anorexic". so disreguard other comments about that.

also, that is nowhere near heavy. i am 1 or 2 inches shorter than you and my doctor told me that the LEAST he would allow me to weigh was actually 103lbs.

i hope this helps and i hope that that BMI calculator does you well.

yeah, I think bmi does work. My bmi is 18 (underweight) and I still feel fat too. It's just your perception on yourself

You sound find. BMI really does work, but please understand its body mass, so depending on what your muscle to "fat" ratio is that will effect it. You didnt mention if you workout, do that for a couple of months then get checked.
