Call your local shelter or Humane Society. Many "no-kill" shelters have sponsored programs, to which they offer redeemable certificates to offset the costs of the neutering process. The only "catch" is that you have to go to the specified supporting veterinarians that participate in the program, though this isn't' really a drawback to a free service such as this.

Here in my community/state such programs are offered and I've even utilized them when I obtained my pet. I had no out of costs expenses, or hidden charges. I wish you well!

The cost of a spay surgery varies from vet to vet. In our area, there's a shelter that has their own clinic and altered dogs for about $80... The fancy veterinary hospital costs about twice that. But along with the surgery you will probably also have to pay for an office visit, anesthesia, pain medication, etc. If the dog isn't current on all of its vaccinations, they'll charge for that, too. So figure around $200.

In our area, the local Animal Control office offers a 50% rebate on spay/neuter surgeries if you get the dog altered within 30 days of getting the dog licensed. Checked in your area to see if similar vouchers are available.

Call around to a few vets, they can give you a quote. In many states, there is a spay/neuter rebate or credit if you are in a particular income bracket, or if the animal is rescued. Your local vets will know these programs and will help with the paperwork. Also, many vets are willing to work with you and let you come up with a payment plan - not to scare you, it's really not terribly expensive, I just know how it is to be on a budget!

Thanks for doing there right thing and not adding to the overpopulation problem!

I think it's $200 at the most. Is that really too much money to save lives? 1 out of 5 animals finds a home for life! That means 80% are unwanted and usally put to sleep! Most larger communites have spay and neuter clinics or animal shelters that will do it for cheeper! If you love your pet you'll have it fixed!

Check with your local humane society or shelter to see if they have a low cost spay program.
You can also contact SNAP, Spay and Neuter All Pets for a discount on spaying, you can find them on the web. They will also send a list of vets that will accept the certificate.

The cost of spaying can vary quite a bit so call around and see if you can find a spay and neuter place that doesn't charge so much. This is the time to be getting it done.
