I'm trying to find info on Borderline Personality Disorder, I've found the following definition and was wondering if it's an accurate one. It seem different from those found on webMD and most websites.

Here is the Link.

http://www.stanford.edu/~corelli/borderline.html

Any feedback would be appreciated.

My sister has been diagnosed as Borderline and this Stanford link sounds like it was written to describe her. She went undiagnosed and untreated for many, many years. She was also suffering from Post-traumatic Stress Syndrome from a rape when she was 13. She began cutting herself when she was 15-16 and was in a full blown emotional breakdown when her marriage of 17 years began breaking up (no surprise her ex was verbally abusive). After going through many doctors she finally found one who diagnosed her and she is currently getting treatment with counseling and medication.

The time period in itself is complex, as an extra answerer stated. This is a tremendous query so perhaps folks will reply certain numbered questions, even though such a lot are on a case by means of case foundation, and that differs commonly from every "patient" principally My certain enjoy is as performing as a voluntary registered carer for anyone who used to be variously identified because the years handed, now not borderline in any of them, and the prognosis is ongoingly variable for the final 35 years. However throughout that point I discovered adequate considering and studying across the discipline of BPD to supply a partial reply to q's nine & 10 and an statement or 2. Many very effective administrators/managers, and peculiarly politicians exhibit traditional "signs" of BPD, so of their case, by means of their possess lighting fixtures, they're handling society readily, and are "effective" within the conventional feel. There could also be relatively a giant query approximately prognosis, I am certain that after a catergorisation can not be located in earlier regular prognosis, eg bipolar sickness, shizoaffective sickness, and many others, that character issues come to be an alternative to catergorise in. Now I've began I would pass on for a long time, however I'll spare you that. I wager you're taking into account methods to aid anyone you recollect much less lucky than your self, and I wager that they recognize that - be careful for being manipulated. If you are a household member, a near buddy, or a general practitioner I want you all of the exceptional, if you are a good which means onlooker run away. If you're the patient-you've gotten been misdiagnosed

That seems to be a pretty good summation of this disorder. These are people who have been considered odd since childhood. They do okay in school, but might be sitting in class picking their noses, wearing or generally not fitting in for any number of reasons. They are people you work with may choose not to socialize or socialize inappropriately. Sometimes it's not a big deal other times you may go out of your way to avoid them.

It's a tough disorder to sum up succinctly.

According to the DSM-IV, the real book you need to consult, (it is the diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders for all mental health professionals,) Borderline P/D is a pervasive pattern of instability of interpersonal relationships, self-image, and affects, and marked impassivity that begins by early adulthood and is present in a variety of contexts.

There must be lots of personality disorders, like depression, stress, bi polar(?). Maybe it is important to know what type of disorder you have then apply the definition to that disorder.
