My fiance will be stationed at Fort Hood at the end of this year and I will be going with him for the first time. So far, I haven't heard very many good things about the area and I have to admit I'm very apprehensive about moving there. I'm hoping to hear about the best areas to find an apartment , job prospects, crime rates etc. but any info would be greatly appreciated.

I currently live in Connecticut. I moved back home when I graduated college because my mother was sick (much better now though). We met when I was a student at Syracuse University. He's currently stationed at Fort Drum in upstate New York. We've been together a little over 3 years and have survived a yearlong deployment to Iraq, but relocation has never been an issue before. I was born and raised in New England so the south just seems so foreign.

There's plenty of good things about Fort Hood.

I'm an army wife who is currently stationed here.....

www.hood.army.mil/hoodgarison click on relocating to Ft Hood, go to Relocation Readiness and look at Sponsor a Spouse. It's a program that will answer al lyour questions about Ft Hood, and the surrounding area. :)

Copperas Cove is small town, Killeen is is growing from a small town to a small city...... Ft Hood is huge! lol

Jobs: central texas workforce commission is a good place to start. Hood has a ton of contractors working on it, and it'sa new budget year :)

It's a lower cost of living here than a lage city, but it all depends on what you are used to.

I am not stationed at Fort Hood but my daughter lives in Killeen Texas like any place there are good and bad areas she has lived and worked there for almost twenty five years
Her husband was stationed at Fort Hood when they first went there. The best thing I can sugest is go on a trip there before you move or go on line and check with a real estate office there and let them tell you what are the best area to live things are really growing there you can find places that are kind of in the country or new places close to town. We go riding around when I am back there and we go look at the new areas ask about them with a real estate agent Good Luck

Stay away from the rancier ave. area. I actually lived in Harker Heights when I first got there. If you're looking for an apartment then I would suggest Lions Run or Lookout Ridge. If you are looking for a house there are some nice neighborhoods off of Stan Schlueter Loop.

Thats where we are from. We lived in Belton,Tx,and loved it. Its very country there. The good thing is Austin,San Antonio, and alot of other big towns are close by,and make fun little trips. Where are you moving from? We may get to stay, and if not were going to either Louisianna or San Antonio. Not sure if I will like living there, but who knows..Military life is such an adventure huh! haha gotta love it!
