Has the dog been diagnosed with earmites? Dogs don't commonly get ear mites.Often times waht people mistake for earmites in dogs is actually either black, dirty wax buildup or an infection brewing. I would get the ears checked out by a vet to get a proper diagnosis and get proper treatment. The wrong treatment could cause some serious issues.

Usually ivermetic can be used to treat earmites. Two applications ten days apart should do the trick. You can get this med from your vet.
Earmites are contagious to other animals, so if that's the case you may want to check their ears also.
Untreated earmites can cause your dog to constantly scratch it's ears which can cause sores and bleeding on the outside of the ears. It can also suffer a hematoma from shaking it's head.
Imagine a constant crunching sound inside your head, that's what having earmites is for a dog.

Yeah, my cat had earmites. Just simply take him to the vet. The vet will then give u a bottle of medicine, in which you squirt into the dogs ear. Your problem should be fine in a week or two. Good luck!

You can by earmite drops from a vet or pet store.
Clean ears first (each day) & then apply drops rubbing the ears together. Do this for 10 days straight. Then after treatment, give your dog a good bath-to kill any mites that might lay on coat.

A remedy I used for my dog was this:

1 pint (16 oz.)of 93% rubbing alcohol (drug store)
16 drops of Gentian Violet (you can get this at the drug store - tell them you need it to treat the ear mites in your dog's ears.
4 Tablespoons of boric acid powder (WalMart)
You have to remember to shake vigorously before putting this in your dog's ear, as the boric acid powder will separate out of the liquid, and the boric acid is what keeps the ear from stinging. I use a large medicine dropper and fill my dog's ear and massage gently. Your dog's ear will be purple underneath, but it's okay. You might need to do this for a couple of weeks to get rid of the earmites. I did it a couple of times a day for about a week, then once a day for about a week. He rarely scratches any more, but if he does, I put some in his ear, he shakes his head to get rid of the excess and I watch him closely for a couple of days to make sure he is not scratching. If a dog has ear mites and it gets hot,it will scratch violently as heat tends to cause the mites to become more active.
Hope this information is helpful to you...please don't forget to shake, shake, shake the bottle.
