Nutro Natural Choice Large Breed Puppy is probably the best for it. It's healthy, good stuff and makes the fur really silky and shiny.

I use Iams Large Breed Puppy Chow.

The number 1 ingredient is meat and there is at least 2 other meat ingredients as well. You really want to stay away from the dog food that contains a lot of fiber and fillers.

Dogs digestive systems are straight. They are meant to digest protein, not fiber.

Also, when a good food lists things are "by products" it's the left over meat that the FDA wouldn't allow them to sell to humans. Normally it's rotten or inedible parts. Animal "digestive" is also very bad.

It's hard to find dog food without these things in them but the farther down the list they are, the better.

Oh yea, I have a doberman and a boxer. Both puppies, both very healthy.

Puppy chow or anything made by Purina has tons of fillers especially corn that is not digestible. It will also produce gas in a lot of dogs. They eat more and potty more. The odor is also astounding. So in the long run you will not actually be saving money. I also tend to know where some dog food companies get their meat they put in it and the quality. A good less expensive dog food is Nutro Max large breed. They also have Natural Choice. Iams was a real good dog food till they sold out to Proctor and Gamble. You can also create your own homemade dog food using human foods like meats, veggies and brown rice etc.

Puppy Chow is OK, but it has a lot of additives and fillers, which aren't really healthful.
A good brand is Nutro Natural Choice Large Breed Puppy. It doesn't have any fillers, additives, or chemical preservatives. You can find it at most pet stores.

HERE YOU GO

How to grade your dog's food: Start with a grade of 100:
1) For every listing of "by-product" , subtract 10 points
2) For every non-specific animal source ("meat" or "poultry", meat, meal
or
fat) reference, subtract 10 points
3) If the food contains BHA, BHT, or ethoxyquin, subtract 10 points
4) For every grain "mill run" or non-specific grain source, subtract 5
points
5) If the same grain ingredient is used 2 or more times in the first
five
ingredients (I.e. "ground brown rice", "brewers rice", "rice flour" are
all
the same grain), subtract 5 points
6) If the protein sources are not meat meal and there are less than 2
meats
in the top 3 ingredients, subtract 3 points
7) If it contains any artificial colorants, subtract 3 points
8 ) If it contains ground corn or whole grain corn, subtract 3points
9) If corn is listed in the top 5 ingredients, subtract 2 more points
10) If the food contains any animal fat other than fish oil, subtract 2
points
11) If lamb is the only animal protein source (unless your dog is
allergic
to other protein sources), subtract 2 points
12) If it contains soy or soybeans, subtract 2 points
13) If it contains wheat (unless you know that your dog is not allergic
to
wheat), subtract 2 points
14) If it contains beef (unless you know that your dog is not allergic
to
beef), subtract 1 point
15) If it contains salt, subtract 1 point

Extra Credit:
1) If any of the meat sources are organic, add 5 points
2) If the food is endorsed by any major breed group or nutritionist, add
5
points
3) If the food is baked not extruded, add 5 points
4) If the food contains probiotics, add 3 points
5) If the food contains fruit, add 3 points
6) If the food contains vegetables (NOT corn or other grains), add 3
points
7) If the animal sources are hormone-free and antibiotic-free, add 2
points
8 ) If the food contains barley, add 2 points
9) If the food contains flax seed oil (not just the seeds), add 2 points
10) If the food contains oats or oatmeal, add 1 point
11) If the food contains sunflower oil, add 1 point
12) For every different specific animal protein source (other than the
first one; count "chicken" and "chicken meal" as only one protein
source, but "chicken" and "" as 2 different sources), add 1 point
13) If it contains glucosamine and chondroitin, add 1 point
14) If the vegetables have been tested for pesticides and are
pesticide-free, add 1 point

If you can't put a finger on an aggression issue, you should maybe think twice about the breeding. You don't need this kind of help, you need experience. A hundred dif people on here will tell you a hundred dif answers. Do they have like a "bark-busters" or equivalent in your area? Do your local shelters and prospective puppy-litters a favor, and don't breed until you master obedience and control. Ask yourslef "why" you want to stud him out. Shelters are already full of pits. Not trying to offend you, but this is why i think people should need a license to breed dogs... regardless of breed.

It's an ok food but there are much better out there...Canidae, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul, Wellness,Blue Buffalo to just name a few. Look for foods that preferably contain no corn, wheat, soy or beet pulp and no by products. Also meat as at least the first two ingredients.Dogs are meat eaters not grain eaters. They were designed to get theri nutritional needs from meat sources not grains. It takes twice as much if not more of grain based foods for a dog to meet his nutritional needs then it does of a meat based food.

Definitely nothing that you can buy at a grocery store, a car store (canadian tire), a clothing store. Those are all scrap food. They have by-product so no real meat, they use corn as their main ingredients and all that does is keep their belly empty cause it goes right through them, makes their coat ugly (dander, oily), makes them listless (sleeping alot) and some dogs are allergic to corn. If you want a good food, go to a pet store. Not all food in a pet store will be good for them ( Pedigree, IAMS, Eukanuba, etc.). If you want something expensive but worth while with variation try Wellness, unfortunately there's no large breed puppy in that formula. Another one that is good is Natural Balance. Happy hunting and let me know if you need more help.
BTW, my dog used to be on Kibbles n bits, did shitty on it. She's been on wellness for nearly 3yrs now, she is a 16yr. old shepherd/collie mix.
