Yes, I absolutely believe that Jesus was a real man. Not the son of God, but a man.One who was so important to the people of his time that his very existence set into motion an unprecedented course of history, the likes of which had never been known before, and will probably never be known again.

No I don't think there was an actual historical person named Jesus who inspired the legend. There is evidence of many wandering preachers and doomsday prophets in those days, anyone of which could have given inspiration. I am open to the idea that he could have been a real historical person, but if so, he was just a man. It is unlikely if he really existed that he actually said many of the things that have been written for him to say in the bible.
Similar to Confucius, William Tell, King Arthur etc....just a character invented to give some nice sayings to. There is no evidence that the city of Nazareth even existed before 100CE, it is mentioned in none of the Roman tax records before that, so how could he have walked it's streets?
My religious background is raised in a fundamentalist evangelical christian church called the christian brethren or plymouth brethren, though I have been an atheist since my early 20's.
Read Earl Dougherty's page, the Jesus Puzzle, very good overview of the historical and archeological evidence.

Sure, there more than likely really was a guy named Jesus who came from Nazareth. I can say that simply because there are a couple of references to him (as a "teacher" who was put to death) in the writings of a Roman historian, who had no religious axe to grind. All of the divine stuff, though -- miracles, resurrection, etc. -- were almost certainly made up by his followers long after his death.
I'm a confirmed agnostic, the only intellectually defensible way to think about god and religion. There's no proof there is a god, but there's no way to prove there isn't one (sorry atheists), so it's the only logical position. Peace.

I'm not sure whether he did on not. Contemporary Roman and Jewish texts make no mention of Jesus of Nazareth. If he was such an influencial figure, surely SOMETHING from his time would have been written about him. Alas, all references to him and his followers begin many years later.
Most likely the Biblical Jesus was inspired by some real person. Similar to how the Legendary King Arthur may have been inspired by a Celtic or even Roman leader. The details of his actual life are lost, all we have is the legend.
I am a strong agnostic or weak atheist, depending on how you define these things.

No he was not.
It's a historical fact that he was invented and deified at the council of Nicea in 325 "ad" by Emperor Constantine.
He never was real.
