I am half Greek half Italian. You are comparing a whole country against a city. But quite frankly with my eyes closed I would choose Istanbul. It is a lot cheaper. A lot more history and the night life is hands down better than Athens. As a Greek I do not want to offend any of my fellow countrymen by saying this but it is the truth. to find out prices I suggest check out the web site www.tourkey.org send them an email. they have offices in Turkey, Greece and US, and they have the best prices and service.

That is a difficult one to answer; I've been to Greece six times and Istanbul three times. If you are looking for a place that is inexpensive, I'd go with Istanbul. But if you are looking for a fantastic nightlife, Greece is the place to be. For now, many of the beach clubs are still open in Athens, and the parties on the islands are absolutely unbelievable. If you are going in the summer time, I'd hit up Greece. If you're going in the fall or winter, the beach clubs close up and its a toss-up either way; I'd probably do Istanbul.

If I were you I´d visit both.
You could visit Thessaloniki, the second biggest city in Greece (approx. 1,2 million) which is in the north. The nightlife is amazing also the shopping facilities and they say that Thessaloniki has the most beautyful women in whole Greece. From there you can take the train or the plane to Istambul, it´s not actually very far away, take a look on the map and you´ll see. It doesn´t always have to be Athens!!
Considering the prices Turkey is cheaper but if you wanna go to Istambul the prices are almost the same like in Greece.
Have lots of fun!! :-)

Desired by empires across the generations, straddling Europe and Asia, Istanbul is one of many world's good metropolises an you are able to start to find out with Hotelbye . The town was technically named Istanbul following the founding of the Turkish Republic and is liberally spread with glorious remnants of its extended and illustrious record, and the sightseeing here may impress actually the absolute most monument-weary visitor. The mosque Sultan Ahmet, also known as the Blue Mosque isone of the thing should see in Istanbul. Blue Mosque was created between 1609 and 1616 and it caused a furore throughout the Muslim earth when it was finished as it had six minarets. The mosque gets their nickname from their interior decoration of countless amounts of İznik tiles. The whole spatial and shade effect of the inner make the mosque among the best achievements of Ottoman architecture and a place worth visit.

Greece is a country. Istanbul is a city.
Greece has many different areas to visit, big cities, small cities and many islands in the Aegean and Mediterranean.
Istanbul is the largest city in Turkey. If you are interested in history, it has many Ottoman and Byzantine sites to see. It has great museums.
The Bosphorus (the straight separating Europe from Asia) is beautiful. The whole ambiance of the city is very exotic and charming. It represents a harmonious blend of both Eastern and Western cultures.
Turkey is not a EU country, the prices tend to be more reasonable.
I hope this helps. Good luck.

As a person living in Istanbul and also pointing out Greece is a country i have to say Istanbul. Its all so colorful and so different and wide variety of stuff to choose from, Istanbul is he heart of Asia and Europe... It has both of them continents among it. Since you ve been there i think Bosporus is a simple single reason to pick Istanbul by itself only lol
Enjoy tho , where ever you r gonna head to....

Comparing Greece vs Turkiye or Athens vs Istanbul would be better.
They are both similar countries and cities. Aegean sea, historical places, natural beauties, ppl hospitalities, etc.
If u have a month for your holiday, spend half to half for both. After that u would compare better. I m waiting for your comments about both. Good luck...

I suggest you to visit both.
You may choose to visit Athens for its archeological sites and night life (specially if you have not visit it) and then to pick up either a flight (there are daily frequent flights) or a bus (something about 10 hours trip) from Athens to Istanbul.
It is a good combination.
