Sorry hun, but you will never have the same metabolism you had before. Your body changes after having a baby. Right now in particular you may still have loads of extras hormones and estrogen in your system from childbirth & breastfeeding, which increases the body's desire to store fat. Plus, as a new mom, the stress can cause you to eat more plus stress itself has been proven to cause the body to store more fat.
Are you eating a lot? If so, you need to start controlling your food intake by cutting out as much junk as you can and concentrating on healthy foods (also better for baby) and eat small portions every two hours instead of one or two big daily meals and then snacking in between. See if after you put baby down for a nap or the night if you can portion out what you need for the next day into several small containers so you just go get one every 2-hours, think like grapes or other things that you can eat while feeding baby. Also, join a mom's group that does the Yoga in the Park or Stroller Walks so you can meet other adults and get exercise.
Were you dieting strictly to lose the weight after baby and then went back to your normal eating behavior? This may be why you suddenly gained weight back. If you suddenly start eating a lot less your body will react by decreasing your metabolism to maximize use of what you do eat. Then, when you go back to normal eating patterns, your metabolism says lower and so you store more of what you eat as fat. There are ways to increase your metabolism again but off-hand I'm not sure of foods to use, I think it is mostly exercise that will do it.

I gained weight too. Not sure why. I guess the body changes after having a baby and holds on to every ounce. Over the last 3 years, I've gained 60lbs O.o

Are you taking any type of birth control because the hormones in birth control pills can cause you to gain weigh. And how is your emotional and mental health? do you eat a lot of junk food and drink a lot of pop? If the answer is no then I suggest that talk to a nutritionist and have them show you how to prepare the same meals but more healthier.

I've found that while nursing my daughter I'm sitting down alot more than I used too. I lost all but five stinky pounds of my pregnancy weight that just keep sticking around and I'm pretty sure its due to lack of excersice. While moms nurse they are the sole provider of food for their little one and its very hard to find the time to be as active as they previously were. Try drinking more water and going for walks as often as you can.

Oh, boy - you and 80 per cent of women who have had babies! It's being home and not having the same routine you did before, and eating what you feel like it. Sure, you have to eat more because you are nursing, but the activities you are doing to burn the calories are different.

Thats nothing compared to how much I gained!!!! A friend shed it all off by drinking lots of water and working out, which I just couldnt do without adding sugar to my water, which turned out to be all wrong!!!! But by the time that child gets to an age where you dont have to lift them up anymore, you will definitely have some biceps sticking out. I just couldnt get rid of the cellulite!!!!

Are you now on birth control?
I got a norplant long ago, and that caused me to gain lots of weight after my pregnancy.
Could be hormones?
Could be depression?
