no, the general consensus is that viruses are not living things, although there is some debate about this topic. Viruses are, in essence, RNA (like DNA, but only a single helix) encased in a protein shell. They cannot reproduce themselves- they must hijack a cell in order to manufacture more of their genetic material, and for this reason, many biologists do not consider them living.

Yes they are alive. Most viruses like the flu or a cold are living. Most are airborne and we breath them. If the person's immune system is low, the virus will invade and the person will have to fight this off before it can turn into a bacterial infection. ie: cold (virus) bronchitis (infection) note: Most vaccines are live viruses that are injected into you to prevent it. Once your body has a certain virus it can never get it again, a similar one but not the exact one. They also have different forms of one virus like mono, chicken pox and herpes all are from the same family but different virus. Hope this helps.

I work in a nasty office when no one but me washed their hands, covers their mouth when they sneeze or cough. I am constantly using a hand sanitizer and disinfectant spray. I also take multi-vitamins daily to ward off colds and viruses. I am not a finatic but i have a toddler and my husband is a teacher so we are both working in high germ environments.

Viruses are "live" organisms just like bacteria. The viruses they inject you for a vaccination, however, are "dead".
