When I just had one dog and it was his first birthday...I invited my best mate over with her 3 dogs who are his favourite friends and we had a bbq...lots of meaty treats for the dogs and they had lots of fun in the garden...I didn't go as far a birthday cakes and silly hats for the dogs but I did do doggy bags to take home with some favourite doggy treats in and we had some lovely photos to frame of the day!! At Xmas the dogs have new blankets or new beds, some new squeaky toys etc...and NO I don;'t do doggy clothes etc, they have their own coats to keep em warm and look good in them without having to endure a fashion statement...Keep it simple and make sure your dog has fun on his birthday and every day

Remember that you are doing a birthday party for your benefit, not your dogs! They neither know nor care. So try to do something that matters to them, not something that will give them an upset stomach the next day.
Christmas is different. They know the day is different, Mum is uptight and busy, theres loads of people around, the food smells great and they're lucky if they get a sniff, they get ignored and everyone else has all the fun.
We used to wrap up a jumbo chewstick for our old dog, as the kids and everyone else got their gifts to unwrap he'd be given the chewstick and unwrap it himself. He'd parade it around the room then settle down to eat it. It was hilarious.
If you teach your dog to unwrap his own gift then make sure he knows not to help himself to the ones you put under the tree at Xmas.

First, is your dog one that likes toys? If so then get her a toy of some kind and put it in a paper box that has been painted with the smell of some kind of meat. That will make her bit into it and give you quite a show as she tears into her present whit glee. You can do the same thing with a special bed for her too. Dogs are easy to please.

Give her a few doggy treats and a day at the park or beach! Spend the whole day playing with her and lavishing your love in forms of pats, praise n hugs. Dogs love to play and spend time with their owner!

Last year my 8-year-old daughter decided to have a party for her dog. We invited two other dogs and she had prepared "party bags" for them all - which were those hard bone-shaped bacon treats - and the dogs had to unwrap them - which they did very quickly!
And that was that!

thing is dog age 7 times quicker than us, so would you have 8 (xmas as well) partys for your dog or just the one, and would they understand what is going on? i thinks its more for us than the dog themselfs, i would have a special day every month for you and your dog, just spend some extra time and extra treat for the dog and for you aswell. (but treat your self to a night out or new out fit, not dog chews)

I normally get some of my dogs favourite treats and a squeaky toy and rap them in a big parcel. When it comes time to open the parcel I squeak the toy a bit and she goes mad and rips the parcel open.

I think she deserves a nice fat steak cooked medium well, served with her beverage of choice. (water?) A dessert made of a her favorite flavored rawhide twist would set the day right as she settled in for a nap on her new bed that you bought just for her. Ahhhh... what a pampered pooch....
