There is a house down the street from me that I absolutely love and I want my house to be just like it. It has EVERYTHING that I want in a home. Do you think it would be disrespectful to go to the house and ask the owner questions about their home? I want to get the dimensions and all that stuff. I am really tempted but I don't want to them to think that I am crazy or staking their house out or something! What do you think?

Go knock on the door and talk to them. Tell them how much you admire their house and what you're thinking about doing with your own home. They'd probably love to show off their home to you.

I think if you approach them in the right way it would be taken as a compliment. You have obviously been inside their house before so you must know them, however slightly. Introduce yourself and tell them you hope you aren't being rude but you really love their house and wonder if you could ask a few questions. Unless they are real jerks, they should be happy to help you. Send a batch of cookies the next day! Maybe you'll make some new friends in the process!

No, I work in the mortgage industry and work with a lot of realtors and appraisers and it wouldnt be disrepectful at all. The home owner might not let you in but it cant hurt to ask. If you ever need to refinance that home, cash out, buy another property or for any of your mortgage needs call Joseph Hernandez ( thats me ) at 1-888-663-4221. Good luck.

Well, you don't want to go from flattering to annoying. It's nice to be asked where the couch came from or how did the wallpaper get chosen, but don't bombard them with dimension questions. Who remembers that?

If it was me, I would be flattered that you like my house, but I would not want a carbon copy of it just down the street.
