I am amazed at PAULCYP, you can actually watch this and then claim it has all been set up to attack the Catholic Church. Wake up and smell the roses mate. I think the argument is also a bit sectarian but does it mean that because you think you dont abuse as many children as other oginisations that makes you better than them, I wish you were here now Paul you small minded, tit for tat nutter, I cant believe you think there is any justification to abusing children because you dont do as many as teachers!!!!!!!!

Why are we arguing about who abuses more children the Catholics or the Protestants when we should be more concerned that children are being sexually abused. Yet another bit of proof that all these religions are rubbish and should be held to account for their actions before the law, not left to thier own devices till they meet whatever god they follow. Hypocrites.

Ok I watched parts of it. No one in the Catholic Church will tell you they agree with how the child abuse by some of the priests was handled. It was handled wrong, they should have been stopped and charged as soon as it was brought to attention, but it wasn't. There is nothing that can be done about that now. Everyone in the church is human they make mistakes, the mistake here was in the handling of the abuse cases. These priests that abuse children are not true Catholics or Christians. They use any means necessary to get close to children so that they might abuse them. They are pedophiles and if they hadn't chosen the Church as their means to target children they would have chosen another way. For example some teachers are pedophiles does that make ALL teachers pedophiles? NO! Does that mean pedophilia is an endemic in the school system? NO! Another point to keep in mind is that majority of pedophiles are married men!!

The catholic church is an institution, like any other, and institutions contain all sorts of people.

In case you hadn't noticed, the UK paedophile scare began in children's homes, and it has now become a national blood-sport and obsession; to the extent that other countries laugh at us.

It really doesn't matter where you look or where you are, you will be among paedophiles.....in the bus station, in the train station, on the beach, in the pub, at school, in church and even in the family home very often.

It has always been like this, and it probably always will be like this.

The catholic church has therefore been targetted simply because it is possible to target it, but it could just as easily have been the scout movement, youth groups, education, children's charities and the like.

What you don't see is what you don't know, and it is unfair to see one institution as any worse than any other.

What on Earth makes the chap above think it was a deliberate attack on the church of rome ?

It was a well made documentary, highlighting a problem and bringing it to the attention of the public in general.
I have catholics in my family, protestants too, but the only schools that had the kiddy fiddlers were the catholic ones. One of the schools that my children attended actually had one of the disgusting bastards transfered to america to avoid his impending prosecution.

Wake up old son, do not try to defend the indefensible, try to see the truth through the thick grey fog of your indoctrination. Blind faith is just that..blind.
Yes it is a problem of massive proportions.

Let me get this straight. You want us to watch a video that was made for the express purpose of attacking the Catholic Church, with "an open mind", and then alter the truth to agree with the video???? Ya, right. The incidence of homosexual acts with young boys among priests is just about the same as in any other group of men, and in fact is lower then the incidence among Protestant clergy. This has been demonstrated in study after study. You have been duped by the secular press, which has an obvious agenda to attack God's Church, and therefore puts every case involving a Catholic priest on the front page, while all the cases involving ministers, rabbis, guidance counselors, youth ministers, scout leaders, etc. are placed on page 28, or simply ignored. Oh, and let's not forget the biggest group of molestors of all - teachers.

"Crimen Sollicitationis was enforced for 20 years by Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger before he became the Pope.

It instructs bishops on how to deal with allegations of child abuse against priests and has been seen by few outsiders.

Critics say the document has been used to evade prosecution for sex crimes."

Can't argue with Panorama really. Thanks for the informative link. Not a Catholic me though so no further comment :-)

The catholic church, like all churches, is a farce.
Once people stop needing these emotional crutches, we'll stop giving them our money, then they'll stop.
One interesting or disturbing? thing on abuse, and cons.....seen the ad for nspcc? they "need" seven million pounds, was it a week? or month? to "stop" child abuse.
How can money stop a kid being fked? Pay for more ads,and large salaries of middle, and upper managment charity (saleried) workers....raise "awareness"? WHAT does THAT one mean? £500,000 0n tv ads showing a creepy step dad, and a girlds bedroom...and it all stops...yea? WHERE do they get a financial figure on child abuse? its absurd!!!! Think about it, what a cruel way to obtain money to pay saleries and advertising costs, on a vauge premise of "raising awarness".
