I have suffered from depression since I was 11 years old. I hid it from EVERYONE. My parents didnt know, my brother didnt know and my closest friends didnt know. I am married now with a 4 year old son and I still do hide it.
But I have learned that even talking about it a little, does help sometimes.
My best friend in the whole world doesnt know that I have had depression for 15 years. I choose not to tell people because they always come back with, " well everyone has a bad day." But my bad day is everyday.

Depends on how badly I am depressed and if I feel like talking. Of course if I am around someone and want to talk then no I do not hide it but there are times when you need to be strong such as the illness of a loved one where you can't let it show. Fortunately I am not as depressed as I once was and am much better able to deal with it.

I am very good at hiding depression. When I can't disguise my depression very well, I make up an excuse not to be with other people and stay at home. I cannot stand the attention and the stupid things that people say about pulling yourself up by the bootstraps and smile, be happy, etc.

I try to hide it. My husband doesn't support my feelings of depression so I just hide it instead of talking about it with him or anyone Else. I don't want to depress anyone Else.

I am depressed a lot, and I tend to hide it very well. There's no point in crying about it and letting everyone else read the emotion off your face like a book (i.e., moping about, hanging your head, sniffling). Because then they will try to "comfort" you, which never helps, or worse; they'll try to shut you up in a nice, subtle way with "Cheer up" or "Don't cry."
Bleh. Other people interfering never helps.

I can not hide it from my 7 year old. He called me from OHIO and told me on the phone I sounded depressed. I told him I was, he had only been gone for 2 weeks. I MISS MY BABY BOY!!! ( He wanted to move with his dad for the school year!!) Can I hide it? Apparently, not very well.

I TRY very hard to hide it, but most often, someone will say something to me about "not being the same person" or "you are not yourself."
It is very difficult for me to hide it, but I have chronic depression that puts me in a black hole. I do fight it and use positive thoughts to treat myself.

I can try to hide it, but I don't think it works very well. Most people that are close to you can tell when you are having an "off" time and there's usually more to it than we realize.
