it's because we aren't perfect....just saved and being changed from glory to glory
I'm not overweight by the way and do try to glorify God by taking care of my body and making sure that I don't over eat as a way of getting comfort when He has made available to me the Holy Spirit that gives us comfort.
The answer is, not one of us have arrived yet so you will see us mess up from time to time and make mistakes. We just have an advocate with the Father and when we ask and truly repent He forgives us.
He's available to you too

The RCC says gluttony is one of their "7 deadly sins" but when I look in the Bible I don't see it as being a sin. The only references I can find to it are in the book of proverbs where the father is warning his son not to hang out with riotous eaters. As a Christian I've never heard a sermon about gluttony or even heard it mentioned in a sermon because the Christian Pastors that I listen to don't add to the Bible with man made interpretations like some churches have a history of doing.
That having been said, I guess some Christians are overweight for the same reason that a certain percentage of the population is overweight. Genetics, bad eating habits, lack of exercise, etc.

Gluttony may be a sin, but a good fish fry is great fellowship!
(Christian, female, Southern Baptist, overweight)
Seriously, everybody has vices. Some smoke, others drink, curse, have sex outside marriage, gamble, etc. This is universal, & not limited to any faith or religion. Consider that most all faiths & religions have personal guidelines that adherants are supposed to follow.
I know some fat Buddists, a couple of alcoholic Muslims, & at least three Wiccans who drive SUVs.
I've yet to begin to understand why non-believers think we're any less human, just because we're Christians.

Gluttony doesn't have anything to do with being overweight, nor does being overweight have anyhthing to do with Christianity. Being overweight has alot to do with genetics and metabolism, and not all people who are in that condition eat alot. The opposite even happens with real skinny people, sometimes they can eat and eat and not gain an ounce.
I haven't noticed alot of Christians to be overweight, sorry.

This is fallacious logic. Not all people who are overweight are overweight because they are gluttons. Some people simply are overweight due to genetics. Secondly, people in general are overweight. Where's your evidence that Christians are any more obese as a group than society as a whole? I mean, I'm as much a non-believer as anyone, but the one thing I hate more than religious nonsense is bad logic.

You should try looking at all the anorexic and depressed Christians I have met while visiting church youth groups and rethink your question!!!
A sin is a sin.
Youre on your death bed and you have sinned your whole life.
Somhow you eat everything in the hospital and sin.
OR
Somehow you tell a white lie.
You have broken God's law and expelled from heaven.
Unless you are saved.
A sin is a sin
I dont consider (spiritually) one sin being greater than another sin!

How many overweight Christians do you know? There are many reasons for being overweight. Some have nothing to do with overeating.

It is because they consider gluttony a lesser sin than vanity.
